SACRAMENTO — Evan Lucas scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had seven assists to lead Athenian over Verdugo Hills 67-49 on Friday afternoon in the California (CIF) Division 5 state boys basketball championship at the Golden 1 Center.

It marked the first state title in any sport for the Owls (28-8) who outscored Verdugo Hills 18-8 in the second period to take command.

Surya Devasenapthy had 15 points for Athenian and Koen Feyock finished with 10 points including two 3-pointers.

Jabez Agustin led the Dons (25-12) with 15 points - including hitting on five 3-pointers - and Alexander Martin added 12 points and a team-high six assists.
