Let’s take a closer look at some of the top-rising sophomore pitchers in high school softball for the 2024 season in the Sunshine State. 

Our list includes some of the best in the state and players who proved to be valuable to their teams last season in on the mound, being the ace and striking out plenty of batters or holding the opposition down. 

There are plenty of worthy names on this list, so be sure to vote in our poll for who you think will be the top-rising sophomore pitcher for the upcoming season. Voting will close on October 1st.

This poll is specifically for fans to vote on the players that have been nominated and in no way discredits any other player that may not be mentioned in our poll.

Lucy Mondok, East Lake: One of the top freshman all season long and was impressive for the Eagles. Mondok went 19-5 with 184 strikeouts and a 1.27 ERA.

Violet Flynn, Crystal River: Just a freshman this past season, Flynn showed she will be a force the next three seasons. Flynn went 9-7 with a 1.16 ERA and 278 strikeouts.

Mylie Stout, Palm Harbor University: The Hurricanes’ ace pitcher led the way as a freshman. Stout went 10-3 in 17 appearances this past fall with a 2.38 ERA and 57 strikeouts. 

Lilly Patton, Steinbrenner: When it comes to top pitchers in not just the Tampa Bay Area, but the state, Patton is right there with anyone. Patton went 11-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 101 strikeouts.

Neveah Williams, Montverde Academy: The best pitcher on the Eagles’ staff was Williams and she had the numbers to prove it. Williams led Montverde Academy with a 13-2 record, 1.18 ERA and 101 strikeouts. 

Rylee Lenzi, West Orange: Last season for the Warriors, Lenzi was stellar for West Orange. The freshman appeared in 23 games, went 8-6 with a 2.17 earned run average and 80 strikeouts. 

Annmarie Gilbert, Choctawhatchee: The Indians' top pitcher from a year ago was the freshman star was Gilbert. Choctawhatchee went 7-1 last season with a 2.72 earned run average and 55 strikeouts. 

Lauren Compton, Lake Brantley: Compton and Grabriella Mike were the Patriots' duo that led Lake Brantley's pitching staff. The freshman pitcher went 7-1 with a 0.79 and 67 strikeouts.

Kaylee Carroll, Freeport: One of the best pitchers on the Panhandle was Carroll out of Freeport. The freshman pitcher made appearances going 9-5, 4.09 earned run average and 67 strikeouts. 

Randi O’Cull, Belleview: The lead Rattlers' pitcher from the 2023 season was one of the best in North Central Florida. O'Cull went 9-7 in 23 appearances with a 3.30 ERA and 54 strikeouts. 

McKenna Hawley, Trinity Prep: When it came to striking out opponents, Hawley was one of the best to do it as a freshman. Hawley fanned 260 batters in 2023 and should be one to watch in 2024. 

Lydia Berent, Cardinal Gibbons: Not many pitchers down in South Florida were like Berent. The freshman hurler struckout 145 batters and at the plate batted .516 with nine home runs and 26 runs batted in. 

Gracie Watley, Suwannee: Another stout pitcher from the Northern Central Florida region that had a solid freshman campaign was Watley. The right-hander pitched 133.2 innings with 175 strikeouts. 

Vanessa Nawracaj, Orlando Freedom: There were so many good pitchers in the Central Florida region, but when it came to freshmen, Nawracaj was tops in the area. Last season, the freshman pitched 131.1 innings with 244 strikeouts.
