Michigan high school baseball state tournament: Novi's late rally downs Mattawan in D1 semifinal

The Novi Wildcats defeated the Brownstown Woodhaven Warriors 8-3 in the Division 1 MHSAA baseball finals on Saturday at McLane Stadium.
It is the first baseball title in Novi history.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the third inning. They loaded the bases, and Thad Lawler hit a 2-RBI single for a 2-0 Wildcats lead.
In the fourth inning, Brendon Bennett singled to left field for an RBI for the Wildcats. Andrew Kummer and Brett Reed added RBI singles later in the inning to give Novi a 5-0 lead.
The Warriors scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Nick Phillips singled to right field, and Dawson Terry advanced to third and then scored on a throwing error by the Novi right fielder, unearned.
In the sixth inning, back-to-back wild pitches from Bennett to advance to third and score a run. Reed doubled to left center for two RBIs, and the Wildcats led 8-1.
Brownstown Woodhaven scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Phillips hit an RBI single, and Michael Budai hit an RBI single to left center.
Novi pitcher Uli Fernsler pitched seven innings. He allowed two earned runs while striking out six and walking zero batters.
Reed finished with three RBIs.
