Quarterback Alex Erby named 2023 National Offensive Player of the Year in high school football

The record-breaking Steelton-Highspire (Pennsylvania) QB earned 32,973 fan votes

It went down to the wire, but SBLive readers have voted Steelton-Highspire quarterback Alex Erby as the 2023 National Offensive Player of the Year in high school football.

Erby voters battled it out with the camp supporting Paradise Honors (Arizona) quarterback Gage Baker before coming out on top to close out 2023.

Erby won with 32,973 votes (53.62%), edging out Baker's 27,342 votes (44.46%).

The all-time leading passer in Pennsylvania high school history, Erby closed his career with 13,567 passing yards and 175 touchdowns.

The Navy commit won back-to-back Class 1A state championships for the Steelton-Highspire Steamrollers.

He broke the Pennsylvania single-season record for touchdown passes with his 58th touchdown toss of the season in the 2023 state championship win over Fort Cherry.

"It's surreal," Erby told SBLive after the win in December. "Just looking in the history books, Dan Marino and all the quarterbacks going down the road, just putting my name in competition with them, it's truly amazing."

Erby and his twin brother, Andrew Erby Jr., won Pennsylvania state championships in three of their four years at Steelton-Highspire, which is coached by their dad, Andrew Erby Sr.

"I'm a very proud father," Andrew Erby Sr. told SBLive as he stood with his arms around his sons. "You two are a blessing. You made me a better man. You guys are amazing. I wouldn't want to do this with anybody else but you two, and thank you guys for holding me together. I love you guys."
