SBLive Florida Boys Basketball Rankings (Jan. 3): IMG Academy No. 1; Columbus moves up to No. 5

IMG Academy is No. 1 in SBLive’s first Florida high school boys basketball rankings of 2022.

The weekly rankings are compiled by Ross Van De Griek and are released every Monday during the season.

After finishing in third place at the City of Palms Classic, the Ascenders return to action this week against Bishop Walsh on Thursday, who is ranked in the Top 50 in the state of Maryland.

2. Montverde Academy (9-2)

The Eagles sit at No. 2 in this week’s SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings, following their 5th City of Palms Classic title back on December 22.

3. Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale) (7-1)

Following a 2-week holiday break, the No. 3 ranked Calvary Christian Academy Eagles begin a three-game week tomorrow night as they host Westminster Christian.

4. Dr. Phillips (10-3)

This Week: at Orlando Christian Prep (Sat.) (O-Town Showdown)

Following a 3-1 trip to the Arby’s Classic in Tennessee, the Panthers round out the Top 5 in this weeks’ rankings.

5. Columbus (Miami) (11-1)

Last Week: Lost to Moravian Prep (NC) 62-43, Defeated Winston-Salem Christian (NC) 68-65, Defeated Chambers (NC) 60-58

This Week: vs Doral Academy (Tues.), vs Braddock (Thu.), vs Mater Lakes Academy (Sat.)

Following a 2-1 week at the John Wall Holiday Invitational, the Columbus Explorers check in at No. 5 in this week’s SBLive Florida boys’ basketball rankings.

The Explorers kickoff a 2-game homestand tomorrow night against Doral Academy.

6. Olympia (10-1)

Last Week: Defeated Choctawhatchee 70-43, Defeated St. Petersburg 77-73, Lost to Bishop Snyder 55-52

This Week: vs Seminole (Sanford) (Wed.), at Windermere (Fri.)

The Titans are coming off a 2-1 week at the Prep Hoops Sun Bash, where they sustained their first loss of the season to a talented Bishop Snyder squad.

7. Lake Highland Prep (9-1)

The Highlanders drop just one spot in this weeks’ rankings, as they have not had a game in two weeks. They come into the new year on a three-game winning streak.

8. Fleming Island (15-1)

Last Week: Defeated New Hempstead (GA) 60-41, Defeated Johnson (GA) 53-48

This Week: vs Fletcher (Wed.)

The Golden Eagles rise seven spots from No. 15 to No. 8 in this week’s rankings. Following a 2-0 week at the Savannah Showdown Tournament, the Golden Eagles will return home to host Fletcher (Neptune Beach) on Wednesday in a non-district contest.

9. Windermere (10-1)

This Week: vs Lake Buena Vista (Wed.), vs Olympia (Fri.), vs Trinity Prep (Sat.)

The Wolverines come into the new year, on a 7-game winning streak.

They’ll return to action on Wednesday night, as they host Lake Buena Vista to kick off a three-game home stretch.

10. North Broward Prep (12-0)

The Pembroke Pines Charter Jaguars drop two spots, after suffering their first loss of the season to Sierra Canyon (CA) on December 21 (The home of LeBron “Bronny” James Jr.)

The Jaguars are back in action on January 6, where they take on Cypress Bay in a non-district contest.

12. Orlando Christian Prep (10-3)
