Stats from the top performers and biggest stars around the state in boys and girls Texas high school basketball for Jan. 17-23

From McAllen Memorial PG Arian Elizondo to San Antonio Reagan G Samantha Wagner, many of the state’s biggest boys and girls basketball stars caught our eye with sensational performances last week across Texas.

Another competitive week of district play was highlighted by enormous offensive performances by several of the state’s top boys basketball stars in the DFW and South Texas, as well as many of Texas' girls basketball standouts in the Houston and San Antonio areas, as district title races around Texas start heating up.

Here’s a look at the top individual performances in Texas high school basketball across the state for Jan. 17-23.

TOP PERFORMERS IN TEXAS HS BASKETBALL (JAN. 17-23):

BOYS BASKETBALL

Chancellor White, Richmond Foster PG

White shined for Foster despite back-to-back losses to Rosenberg Terry (69-59) and Fort Bend Marshall (109-64). He averaged 35.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on 28-of-51 shooting.

Jaylon Pritchett, San Antonio Jay PG

Pritchett powered Jay to a 64-63 win over San Antonio O’Connor in the team’s only game of the week with 36 points on 15-of-26 shooting with four rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Jaland Lowe, Fort Bend Marshall PG

Lowe dropped a season-high 47 points on 16-of-20 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks in Fort Bend Marshall’s only contest of the week, a commanding 109-64 victory against Richmond Foster.

Percy Chavis, Diboll F

Chavis dazzled for Diboll with back-to-back double doubles in a pair of victories over Huntington (59-58) and Pineywoods Community Academy (97-50). He averaged 20.5 points per contest on 42.1% shooting in addition to 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game.

Zayden High, Smithson Valley F

High scored 25.5 points per game on 16-of-24 shooting to help lead Smithson Valley to back-to-back District 27-6A wins against San Antonio East Central (70-63) and Cibolo Steele (64-53). He also averaged 10.5 rebounds, 4.0 blocks, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per contest.

Kenneth Lewis, Houston Booker T. Washington SF/SG

Lewis was sensational in helping Washington top the 100-point mark as a team for the third straight game in the team’s back-to-back blowout wins over Houston Scarborough (102-17) and Houston Kashmere (108-39). He dropped 52 points against Kashmere, and averaged 39.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game on 35-of-46 shooting.

Nazar Mahmoud, Leander Rouse SG

Mahmoud dazzled in a pair of Rouse wins against Liberty Hill (65-59) and crosstown rival Leander (60-37). He tallied 21.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game on 14-of-35 shooting.

Devin Styles, Boerne PF/C

Styles was solid for Boerne in back-to-back decisive district victories against Fredericksburg (65-23) and Wimberley (75-55). He shot 14 of 21 from the floor and also averaged 20.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.

MJ Thomas, Calvert F

Thomas shot the lights out for Calvert with huge back-to-back double doubles in wins over Fayetteville (85-43) and Buckholts (90-27), shooting a combined 20 of 25 in the two victories. He averaged 22.5 points, 22.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Jailan Ardoin, Hamshire-Fannett F

Ardoin dominated to lead Hamshire-Fannett to back-to-back wins over Shephed (73-58) and Splendora (67-28) in district play behind the strength of his efficient shooting. He recorded 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest on 19-of-24 shooting.

Jaylen Crocker Johnson, San Antonio Warren SF

Crocker Johnson shined in Warren’s only game of the week, a 60-57 win over San Antonio Brennan, by recording a 24-point, 12-rebound double double on 9-of-12 shooting.

Jamarion Evans, Center PG

Evans hit on 14 of 37 shot attempts in Center’s back-to-back wins over Hudson (67-61) and Carthage (70-58), and tallied 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

Jayson Cantu, Raymondville F

Cantu led Raymondville to a dominant 53-37 victory over Grulla with a monster double double. He dropped 25 points on 8-of-20 shooting and added 19 rebounds and five assists to help the Bearcats extend their winning streak to 12 games.

Dre Cole, Dallas White G

Cole's big games helped White roll to wins against Dallas Turner (85-44) and Dallas Conrad (59-44). He averaged 24.0 points per contest on 20-of-36 shooting to go with 10.5 rebounds per game.

Ja’Kobe Walter, McKinney G

Walter stood out for McKinney in an 83-81 shootout loss to Denton Guyer in his team’s only game of the week when he recorded 49 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Rylan Griffen, Richardson SG

Griffen, an Alabama commit, tallied a team-high 30 points including six during the final 60 seconds of game time to lead Richardson to a crucial 85-78 win over district rival Lake Highlands in a battle for first place in District 7-6A. He also hit six 3-pointers and scored 30 points in an 82-51 victory against Dallas Jesuit in district play to average 30.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game for the week.

Kade Sebek, Rogers G

Sebek set a new career high with a 39-point performance that featured six rebounds, five steals and two blocks as well as 7-of-11 3-point shooting in Rogers’ 71-65 victory over Caldwell.

Tre Johnson, Lake Highlands SG

Johnson scored a career-high 37 points, including six 3-pointers, in a narrow 85-78 loss in a showdown for first place against Richarson. He also dropped 22 points including a trio of 3-pointers in the Eagles’ 58-39 district win over Irving.

Drew Steffe, Frisco Memorial G

Steffe lifted Memorial to a pair of big wins against Frisco Lone Star (75-59) and Frisco Reedy(70-44). He was dialed in from deep sinking 14 of 20 combined 3-point attempts and averaged 26.0 per game for the week to help the Warriors extend their 15-game winning streak.

Arian Elizondo, McAllen Memorial PG

Elizondo shined in huge back-to-back wins for Memorial against Sharyland Pioneer (70-44) and crosstown rival McAllen Rowe (78-61) to help his team stay unbeaten in district play. He dropped 20 points in the Mustangs’ win over Pioneer and tallied 36 points, four steals and two assists versus Rowe.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Aaliyah Chavez, Lubbock Monterey PG

Chavez led Monterey to a two-game split with a 75-41 win over Lubbock and a 67-57 loss to Lubbock Cooper in district play. She scored 23.0 points per game on 15-of-32 shooting to go along with 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per contest.

Samantha Wagner, San Antonio Reagan G

Wagner exploded offensively in Reagan’s back-to-back wins over San Antonio Lee (79-26) and San Antonio MacArthur (62-29). She averaged 30.5 points per contest on 24-of-37 shooting with 10.0 rebounds, 4.5 blocks and 3.0 assists per game.

Zachara Perkins, Houston St. Pius X PG/SF

Perkins dominated with two huge double doubles in St. Pius’ blowout victories against Houston Incarnate Word (76-59) and Katy St. John XXIII (77-21). She tallied 30.0 points, 19.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game on 54.8% shooting.

Carleigh Wenzel, San Antonio Antonian G

Wenzel helped Antonian pick up a pair of big wins against San Marcos HomeSchool (85-67) and Houston Incarnate Word (60-48) with 28.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game on 43.5% shooting.

Janai Coleman, Edinburg Vela C/PF

In her team’s only game of the week, Coleman helped Vela crush crosstown rival Edinburg North 88-35 with a 22-point, 12-rebound double double that included five steals and a 10-of-14 shooting performance.

Brooklyn Jaeger, Fayetteville SF/PG

Jaeger starred in Fayetteville’s only game of the week, an 80-40 blowout win over Calvert, with 31 points on 15-of-25 shooting with nine rebounds, eight assists and seven steals.

Jaelyn Morrison, El Paso Hanks G

Morrison caught fire to help Hanks extend its four-game winning streak with a 58-37 victory against El Paso Bel Air and a 66-41 win over El Paso Ysleta in district play. She shined with back-to-back double doubles while averaging 19.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 4.0 blocks and 3.5 steals per game on 12-of-30 shooting.

Calyssa Sevier, Lytle PG

Sevier continued her recent hot streak to help power Lytle to a 55-51 win over Natalia and a lopsided 75-30 victory over Jourdanton. She averaged 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 6.5 steals and 5.0 assists per game on 48.5% shooting.

Kaylah Hernandez, PSJA High PF/C

Hernandez turned heads with a 12-point, 10-steal double double in a 67-21 win over La Joya Juarez-Lincoln and an additional 18-point, 13-rebound double double in a 48-30 victory against Mission. She averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game for the week on 13-of-32 shooting.

Rhylei Hendrick, Houston Westbury G

Hendrick made her return to court in style this week with solid performances in Westbury’s 80-5 blowout victory against Houston Chavez and 59-43 loss to Houston Lamar. She tallied 24.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds on 46.5% shooting.

Ashley Gonzalez, Brownsville Pace F

Gonzalez helped Pace keep pace in a tight District 31-5A playoff race with a 35-33 win over Mercedes and a 52-41 loss to Donna. She tallied her first triple double of the season with 13 points, 13 rebounds, 10 blocks, five assists and four steals against Mercedes, and finished with 25 points, eight rebounds and four blocks versus Donna.

Katelyn Kabrich, Tomball Memorial SF

Kabrich shot the lights out last week to help Tomball Memorial extend its winning streak to 10 games by beating crosstown rival Tomball 64-34 and Klein Cain 44-35 in district play. She converted 16 of 37 shot attempts and averaged 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Gabby Johnson, Fort Bend Austin PF

Johnson helped Austin split a pair of district games with a 62-55 loss to Fort Bend Dulles and a 66-37 win over Fort Bend Elkins where she recorded 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game on 14-of-30 shooting.

Marissa Ortiz, San Antonio Southside G

Ortiz dazzled with a 15-point, 10-rebound double double with five steals in Southside’s 36-30 win over San Antonio Southwest Legacy. She then took her game to another level with a triple double that featured 23 points, 11 rebounds, 10 steals and three assists to lead the Cardinals to a resounding 56-23 victory over San Antonio McCollum in district play.

Jordyn Hernandez, El Paso Burges F

Hernandez stole the spotlight during a dominant pair of Burges victories against El Paso Irvin (81-35) and El Paso Jefferson (69-11). She tallied 17.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 7.5 blocks, 4.5 steals and 2.5 assists per game on 42.9% shooting to help the Mustangs extend their 14-game winning streak.

Jules LaMendola, Coppell F

LaMendola led Coppell to a pair of huge victories with 39 points in a 75-43 blowout win against Plano and 23 points in a 59-50 victory over Plano West. She averaged 31.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 blocks on 60.0% shooting for the week.

Jerzie Bryant, Midlothian Heritage PG

Bryant helped Midlothian Heritage secure a pair of victories with 29 points in a 77-38 blowout win against Alvarado and a 20-point performance in a lopsided 59-28 victory over Godley.
