TAMPA, Fla. - Chandler Davis scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Wharton Wildcats boys basketball team to a resounding 69-32 victory over Hillsborough in the 6A-10 Final on Thursday night at Wildcat Gym.

Senior guard Trevor Dyson added 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Wildcats (25-2). Senior forward Carlos Nesbitt chipped in with 11 points.

The Terriers (17-11) were led by senior guard William Ortega, who finished with a team-high 9 points and 4 rebounds. Junior guard Ishaan Bhadouria added 7 points.

WHARTON DOMINATES FROM OPENING TIP

The Wildcats started the game on a 7-0 run and did not look back.

The game started with an administrative technical foul on Hillsborough for a scorebook issue. The Wildcats shot 55 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range (4-for-10).

BOTH TEAMS WILL MAKE A REGIONAL PLAYOFF BERTH

We could very well see this exact same matchup next Thursday night in the Class 6A Regional Quarterfinals, as Hillsborough is expected to be the No. 8 seed in Region 2, while the Wildcats are likely going to receive the No. 1 seed

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Regional brackets will be announced on Sunday at 11 a.m. ET.

WHARTON COULD CONTEND IN CLASS 6A

The Wildcats could be a state title contender in this year’s state playoffs, after losing in the regional finals in each of the last two seasons in Class 7A.
