Ish Smith, former Central Cabarrus standout, wins NBA Championship with Denver Nuggets
Ish Smith, who was a standout player at Central Cabarrus and later at Wake Forest, won his first NBA Championship Monday night with the Denver Nuggets, the 13th team he has played for during his 13-year NBA career.
Smith scored 1,775 career points and dished out a school-record 687 assists before graduating from Central Cabarrus in 2006 and heading to Wake Forest, where he enjoyed a successful career as well.
Smith, a reserve point guard for the Nuggets, went undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft before signing a free agent contract with the Houston Rockets.

He has also spent time with Memphis, Golden State, Orlando, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Oklahoma City, Philadelphia (twice), New Orleans, Detroit, Washington (twice) and Charlotte.
Smith holds the distinction of playing for the most NBA teams in league history.
He has averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 assists during his career. His best season came in 2015-16 with the Philadelphia 76ers, when he averaged 14.7 points and seven assists per game.
