Emaree Winston down to 3; Nation's No. 8 tight end trims list
Calhoun (Georgia) four-star tight end Emaree Winston has already racked up nearly 40 scholarship offers.
Despite all of those options, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound pass-catcher is nearing the end of the recruiting process.
On Tuesday, Winston announced a final three of Central Florida, Ohio State and Texas:
That trio is far from a surprise, and actually highlights the way many experts feel his recruitment is going.
While Winston has visited all three of his finalists at least twice, the primary battle seems to be between Ohio State and Texas - with the Longhorns emerging as the likely favorite over the past few weeks.
Still, it may take time for a decision to be made.
Winston had tentative plans to announce his commitment later this week, but elected to push things back a little further.
What will the schools that lands him be getting?
Here's what 247Sports had to say, in part, about Winston as a prospect:
"Bully of a football player who provides a tone-setting play style as a pass catcher or gadget ball carrier. Shorter than your typical tight end prospect, but regularly shows why finding ways to get him the ball is smart. Experienced basketball player who plays above listed size thanks to his strength, timing, and functional athleticism. ... Rebounding prowess (9.5 rpg as a sophomore, 8.7 rpg as a freshman) manifests on the gridiron. Powerful plucker at the high point... Stoutly built and broad-trunked with excellent play strength that combines with high-pointing acumen and body control to create a difficult matchup vs. smaller defensive backs. ...Wins contested throws with body awareness, strong-handed dexterity, and effort. Knows how to use his body to keep defenders at bay. ...High-motor player who plays hard and transfers that effort to blocking. ...Searches for contact with the ball, which will be a riskier proposition at the next level. ...Flat-out football player and bona fide P5-caliber prospect."
