MLK Day boys and girls basketball scores, live updates around Washington (1/20/2025)

From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., basketball will be played in seven arenas around western Washington as part of 2025 MLK Day, in honor of late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

FINAL: In the end, Richland duo of Horntvedt (game-high 31 points) and Northrop (24) provided every answer when Bears made a run. Bombers will be a handful for any team to slow down.
End 3Q - Richland boys 59, Tahoma 45: Bombers extended lead to as many as 21 points on two occasions, but Tahoma cut it back to 12 on big shots by Millon, Anderson and Coker.
End 2Q - Richland boys 41, Tahoma 27: Bears hung around for a while making 3s ... but went dry in quarter. Horntvedt scored final field goal with 12 seconds remaining on nice feed from Northrop, and leads all scorers with 15 points. Northrop has 14.
End 1Q - Richland boys 25, Tahoma 19: Bombers' high-scoring reputation held up fine with 25, led by Northrop (12 pts) and Horntvedt (10). Both scored team's first nine points of game.

ELLENSBURG GIRLS 62, EMERALD RIDGE 33
FINAL: Might be most impressive win posted in state this winter. Standish leads all scorers with 19 points. Philip adds 17. Bulldogs should be MAJOR factors in Class 2A race.
End 3Q - Ellensburg girls 55, ER 26: The lid came off for the Bulldogs in the quarter, sinking four 3-pointers, including Philip's four-point play. Bulldogs scores first nine points of quarter, extending their dominance from end of first half.
End 2Q - Ellensburg girls 26, ER 17: Hands down, Philip is the best defensive, most disruptive guard in the state. She dominated final 62 seconds with 3-pointer, steal and midcourt and layin and a feed to Standish for another 3 as Bulldogs closed on 10-1 run.
End 1Q - Ellensburg girls 11, ER 11: Bulldogs' guards are super QUICK, giving Jags difficulty on both ends. And ER not getting as much from height advantage as it should with Jackson and McGriff

GAME HIGHLIGHTS
FINAL: Kangaroos finished if off in grand style, hitting nine of 12 field goal attemps in the final quarter to Uusitalo led all scorers with 22 points - 15 coming in second half. Benthin added 18. Both guards hit an extra gear in second half.
End 3Q - Lake Washington girls 39, Sumner 33: Kangs turned this game around by attacking all lanes on defense - and not settlng for 3-pointers. Uusitalo and Benthin were magnificent in leading the charge as they grabbed as large as a nine-point lead.
End 2Q - Sumner girls 24, Lake Washington 22: Spartans build eight-point lead before Kangs close on 7-0 run, capped by Benthin's layin, to tie at 22. Collins hits runner at buzzer to give Sumner lead at intermission.
End 1Q - Sumner girls 12, Lake Washington 9: Despite Collins picking up two early fouls, Sumner rode balance to early lead.

FINAL: All Lions. Parcher finishes with game-high 19 points - 13 coming in second half. Mills adds 17, including a pair of 3s. And Hermanutz scores all 14 in the first half. Very impressive showing by the Class 2A champions. Anderson finishes with team-high nine points for Knights.
End 3Q - Lynden girls 37, King's 20: Mills' 3-pointer from top of arc, followed by Parcher steal and layin through double team in span of 26 seconds put this one to bed, giving Lions 37-18 at 3:04 markl. Anderson makes first field goal with 2:04 to go for King's.
End 2Q - Lynden girls 28, King's 15: Been hearing chatter Lynden is shaky on No. 3 scoring option behind Parcher and Mills. Hermanutz looks just fine, scoring game-high 14 points in first half. For King's, Anderson being swarmed with constant double teams, and has three points, all from free throw line.
End 1Q - Lynden girls 14, King's 9: Hermanutz (7 pts) and Parcher (4 pts) very active in transition for Lions. Ellard nails 3 at buzzer to keep Knights close.
