Dodgers All-Star Free Agent Drawing Interest From NL Contender

The one-time Ddoger could land with this NL contender.

Los Angeles Dodgers free agent and All-Star designated hitter J.D. Martinez could find a new home soon.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Martinez is drawing interest from the New York Mets.

“The Mets are among teams talking to star free agent DH J.D. Martinez, and word is the interest is mutual, sources tell The Post.”

Martinez is coming off a tremendous 2023 season with the Boys in Blue in his age 36 season. The six-time All-Star had a .271 average with 33 home runs, 117 hits, 61 runs, and 103 RBIs in 432 at-bats.

Martinez reportedly rejected a one-year, $14 million contract offer from the San Francisco Giants. The three-time Silver Slugger remains a threat at the plate and possesses immense power. He mixed in well with the Dodgers and will look to continue his productivity with a new squad.

The Mets could use a consistent and elite DH, as they alternated the position all season long in 2023. The Mets received a .220/.312/.403 slash line from their DHs in 2023. If Martinez is half of what he was in 2023, he could put those numbers up on his own — possibly even better.

Martinez would add some pop to an already explosive lineup on paper. He's long overdue for a deal, so we'll see if it'll be the Mets or maybe the Los Angeles Angels to sign the righty slugger.
