Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Reacts to Historic MLB Moment with Giants Interim Manager

History was made at Oracle Park this weekend.

Before the Dodgers and Giants took the field on Friday night, we saw an MLB first at home plate while the teams were exchanging lineup cards. For the first time in MLB history, two managers of Asian descent faced off against one another.

Dave Roberts, who was born in Okinawa, Japan, and who's mother is Japanese shook hands with Giants interim manager Kai Correa who was born in Hawaii but of Japanese descent as well.

Correa was named interim manager of the Giants after the dismissal of Gabe Kapler on Friday afternoon. Roberts shared his thoughts on everything that had gone on yesterday.

“When you step back and you see history was made today, it was pretty special,” Roberts said. “Obviously [Correa is] heavy hearted right now. He and Gabe have a good relationship. But for me as an Asian American, to be able to exchange lineup cards with Kai, I’m proud of him and what he’s done and what he’s doing. I’ve got a lot of respect for him.”

The Giants will likely replace Correa in the offseason but for three games, the stars aligned to give Major League Baseball as well as the four professional sports a first.
