Blake Snell to the Dodgers? 2 MLB Analysts Think It’s Very Possible

Can't rule them out just yet.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent over $1 billion this offseason. But that doesn't mean they're for sure done spending.

There's an old adage that goes, "you can never have too much pitching," and the Dodgers learned that first hand last year after 39 different players threw a pitch at the MLB level.

So, while it's unlikely the team makes a play for the reigning National League Cy Young winner and current top free agent Blake Snell, it's not impossible. That's, at least, what Harold Reynolds of MLB Network thinks.

"You want my sleeper? A shocker? Dodgers. After the Dylan Cease move, everything else. Yamamoto scuffled a little bit this spring, Kershaw's not back yet, Buehler's not back yet. Hm. Hm. Hm. Hm."

On Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post had a similar sentiment on the Bleacher Report live stream.

“To me, the Giants and the Angels are the two teams right now for Snell. Could it be a surprise? Could the Dodgers come in for one of these pitchers? I’m not ruling anything out with them. I was just in their clubhouse. What a fantastic array of talent.”

Clearly, no one wants to rule out the Dodgers, and it's easy to understand why.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto has never thrown an MLB pitch, Tyler Glasnow has never thrown more than 120 innings and Bobby Miller is entering his first full season as a starter at the MLB level.

Then, the Dodgers are hoping Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw return and make an impact, while also hoping James Paxton can have more success both on the field and in the health department.

Do the Dodgers need Snell right now? Absolutely not.

But could they benefit from adding the reigning NL Cy Young winner who finished the 2023 season with a 2.25 ERA? I think every team could.

And with every day that passes by, there's more and more of a chance a team like the Dodgers swoops in with a short term, high AAV offer with opt-outs — exactly what Snell is reportedly looking for at this point.
