Dodgers News: Pitcher Jimmy Nelson Has Re-Signed with LA

The Dodgers made another addition to the relief core with the return of right-hander Jimmy Nelson.

Dodgers fans need no introduction to starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson. The 33-year-old has agreed to deals with LA three times before but injuries cut his season short every single time. Whether it was an issue with his back, forearm, or elbow, Nelson was never able to stay healthy on the field.

However, it seems the Dodgers are giving him yet another shot at the majors as reported by The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya.

Nelson's best performance with the team came in 2021 when he had a 28-game stretch pitching to a 1.86 ERA. He was well on the way to becoming a key late innings option for LA before a elbow injury derailed his season. He eventually underwent Tommy John surgery that year.

The newest Dodger will enter Spring Training more than a full season after his surgery and will have had plenty of time to recover. With 11 players from LA participating in the World Baseball Classic and about three guys dealing with injuries, Nelson will have the opportunity during Spring Training to prove his worth to the squad once again.

The Dodger's front office wouldn't bring Nelson back so many times if they didn't like his production when he's healthy. This contract will pay out for the starting pitcher if he is able to perform and it is a low risk/high reward move for LA.
