Dodgers Slugger Focused on Adding More Tools to His Repertoire This Winter

How will his offseason training affect his season?

The day after the 2023 World Series concluded, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Max Muncy to a two-year extension worth $24 million.

After a successful season at the plate, matching a career-high with 36 home runs, Muncy used the offseason to focus on agility and mobility.

For the Dodgers, this ensures Muncy is under contract through the 2025 season with a $10 million club option in 2026.

He has consistently mashed in the heart of the heart of the lineup since arriving in 2018, hitting at least 30 home runs in four of his first five seasons. He also eclipsed 100 runs batted in for the first time in his career (105). He was one of four Dodgers to drive in at least 100 runs last season.

By working on agility and mobility, Muncy should have a smoother time at third base, a position he took over for the 2022 season. He occasionally made an appearance at the hot corner when Justin Turner was the everyday third baseman, but the past two years have been on lock for him.

Defensively, Muncy struggled a little more last season than the year before. He finished the 2023 season with a .944 field percentage with 23 errors in 285 total chances. He had 25 errors in 222 chances in 2022 for a .955 fielding percentage.

If Muncy does add speed to his repertoire, then maybe the Dodgers will have another base-stealing threat.
