Starling Marte Out of Lineup Monday, Could Be Available Off Bench

The New York Mets outfielder sustained the injury on Sunday against the Miami Marlins in an attempted steal of third base.

The Mets' lineup will be without one of its key contributors on Monday.

Starling Marte is out of the lineup for the series opener against the San Diego Padres with a neck strain he sustained on Sunday.

Marte, 34, hurt his neck attempting to steal third base in the Mets' series finale with the Marlins.

The Dominican Republic native passed concussion protocol and is considered day-to-day.

While Marte won't be starting on Monday, he could be available off the bench.

So far on the season, Marte is 10-for-33 with one home run, two RBIs and four stolen bases.

Jeff McNeil will slot in at right field on Monday, with Luis Guillorme patrolling second base.
