Pair Of All-Stars Mentioned As Possible Options For Mets In Free Agency

New York needs to add some more pop into the lineup

The New York Mets have improved the club this offseason, but the club shouldn't be done adding.

New York let slugger Daniel Vogelbach go this offseason but hasn't addressed the designated hitter spot. The Mets have been linked to a handful of players but haven't been able to get a deal done.

It's unclear exactly what they will do, but they certainly could use some more pop in the middle of the lineup and two players that have been mentioned as options are All-Stars J.D. Martinez and Jorge Soler, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman.

"The issue now is a hitter," Heyman said. "The Mets need one. And cleanup hitter Pete Alonso deserves one in his walk year. And guess what, lo and behold, two bona fide middle-of-the-order hitters remain unemployed. And don’t view J.D. Martinez and Jorge Soler as just two outstanding hitters but as two potential lineup protectors — and maybe even a couple of potential bargains."

Both Martinez and Soler have been floated as options for the Mets in the past and it's not hard to see why. Both had impressive 2023 seasons and immediately would positively impact New York's lineup.

Surprisingly, the Mets haven't brought someone in yet and it's unclear why. Free agency has been extremely slow and maybe that's why, but both Martinez and Soler would be great options.

New York has improved the club this offseason and has had a sneaky good offseason but more needs to be done. Landing either Martinez or Soler would be a great place to start.
