Ex-Red Sox Hurler Signs With Astros After Inconsistent Stint In Boston

The Red Sox may see a familiar face when the Astros come to town Aug. 28

The Houston Astros may have a familiar face coming out of the bullpen when the 2023 Major League Baseball season rolls around.

Houston signed former Boston Red Sox reliever Austin Davis to a minor league contract with an invitation to join the squad in Spring Training and fight for a roster spot with the big league club.

Davis spent the majority of the 2021 and 2022 seasons coming out of the Boston bullpen. Over that span he appeared in 69 games and tallied a 3-2 record while posting a 5.32 ERA across 71 innings pitched. The 29-year-old struck out 78 while walking 36 batters throughout his time with the Red Sox.

After starting strong last season, Davis was designated for assignment by the Red Sox late in 2022 after making 50 appearances for the squad, including three starts. Davis then signed with the Minnesota Twins and made two appearances before the 2022 regular season came to a close.

The rival Astros are coming off yet another title after taking down the Philadelphia Phillies in the Fall Classic. Boston will take on the reigning champions for the first time in 2023 on Aug. 21 to open a four-game series. The Astros will travel to Boston the following week to open a three-game series on Aug. 28, which could be the next time Davis takes the hill in Boston.
