It sounds like one former member of the Boston Red Sox is close to signing a new contract.

Opening Day is under two weeks away and we should start to see a flurry of signings shortly as some of the top remaining free agents opt for lower-than-expected deals to sign before the season kicks off.

One player who certainly fits this description is former Boston Red Sox outfielder Tommy Pham. The veteran outfielder has been looking for his next opportunity but hasn't been able to find his next club yet.

It sounds like this could soon change, though, as he's "moving closer" to signing with the San Diego Padres, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The San Diego Padres and outfielder Tommy Pham are moving closer to reuniting on a one-year, $3 million to $4 million deal," Nightengale said. "Pham earned $8 million last season, including incentives, while helping lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to the World Series. He played for the Padres in 2020 and 2021."

Pham spent the 2023 campaign with the Diamondbacks and New York Mets and clubbed 16 home runs and drove in 68 runs in 129 total games played. Although he impressed, it seems like he's going to end up taking a pay cut to sign soon.

The 36-year-old has been linked to a handful of clubs but still hasn't signed yet. San Diego has been one of the clubs linked to Pham and the club certainly could use some help in the outfield. Don't be surprised to see a deal get done in the next few days.
