Believe in Development of New York Yankees' Young Star

An MLB insider has highlighted a development to believe in from a young New York Yankees star.

The New York Yankees have enjoyed a successful start to the season as they sit with a record of 10-3. The Yankees have won each of their first four series, an impressive accomplishment after struggling in 2023.

Coming into the year, the expectation was for New York to turn it around. Last season was inexcusable, and in return, they've been arguably the best team in baseball.

Improvements from second-year star Anthony Volpe can't go unnoticed.

He had a decent rookie season, winning the Gold Glove and hitting 20 home runs, but slashed just .209/.283/.383. It was a respectable showing from the then 22-year-old, but it was clear that Volpe could give them more.

In the first 12 games of this campaign, Volpe has done just that, slashing .372/.460/.581 with two home runs.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com revealed the one early season development for the Yankees to believe in, highlighting the second-year player and his swing change. Hoch notes that Volpe's adjustments were to be more consistent against fastballs up in the zone.

His at-bats have been impressive this season. Whether it's taking pitches, fighting off tough ones with two strikes, and looking more comfortable overall, it's clear something has clicked for him at the dish.

A learning curve was expected for the rookie in 2023, but improvements were a must in 2024.

Being New York's shortstop is no easy task, and while it's still early in his second season, the former first-round pick looks to be figuring things out at the plate, making this lineup much more dangerous than what it was already expected to be.
