Insider Believes Yankees Still Have Questions to Answer Despite Dominant Showing
An MLB insider was impressed with the season the New York Yankees had but believes they still have questions to answer.
The start of the season for the New York Yankees went as well as they could’ve imagined it.
Starting out sweeping the Houston Astros in a four-game series is as good as it gets for any team in baseball, but especially for the Yankees after the year they had last season.
Factor in the history between the two teams and this was as ideal of a start as New York could’ve hoped for. It’s only been two games, but it's tough not to get excited for fans. The team battled and won from behind in multiple games, Juan Soto showed why he has an argument to be the best hitter in baseball, and Jon Berti made a play that earned saved their sweep in Game 4.
MLB.com insider Will Leitch gave his takeaways for each team after Opening Weekend, writing that everything is beautiful for the Yankees. However, he adds later that they still have a lot of questions to answer.
"Remember when Yankees fans were tearing their hair out and convinced their team was about to fall apart? (You know: Wednesday.) Nothing that a four-game road sweep over the dominant American League franchise of the last decade can't fix.
"The Yankees' four victories in Houston had a little bit of everything ... [they] still have a lot of questions to answer, but it's tough to imagine the first series possibly going better than that."
The questions are fair given the season they had last year and the injury their ace Gerrit Cole already suffered.
While warranted, this is a different team than it was a season ago on both sides of the baseball. Carlos Rodon, who had to work for every out in his 4 1/3 innings pitched in Game 2 looked better, Marcus Stroman battled out a very impressive six innings of no-run baseball, and the lineup found ways to manufacture runs.
Four games doesn't mean those questions are out of the window, but it was an impressive weekend for New York.
They’ll have another tough task on Monday, taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 1 of a three-game set.
