Yankees Fan-Favorite Coach Reportedly Could Return This Offseason

New York has a big decision it needs to make this offseason

The 2023 didn't go as expected for the New York Yankees.

New York entered the campaign with one of the better rosters in baseball on paper. Although this was the case, injuries and inconsistent play decimated the club and New York won just 82 games and missed the postseason by seven games.

While the starting rotation certainly could have been better, New York's anemic offense is a major reason for the club's struggles. New York finished with the second-worst team batting average with a minuscule .223. The club's team on-base percentage wasn't much better at .304 -- good for 27th in baseball.

New York attempted to make a change throughout the season by hiring three-time All-Star Sean Casey to take over as the club's hitting coach. Although the club's struggles continued, Casey garnered high praise and reportedly could be back in 2024, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

"It’s possible, though nothing has been announced yet," Hoch said. "On Oct. 1, Casey said he’d received no offer from (Brian Cashman), though (Aaron Boone) said Casey was 'a breath of fresh air' during his half-season. Casey said he “really enjoyed being back in the dugout” and earned praise from several veterans, including DJ LeMahieu, who said that Casey helped reclaim checkpoints of his swing."

At this point, it's unclear what will happen, but it wouldn't be too surprising to see Casey back in town in 2024. Casey has plenty of big-league experience playing 12 seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, and the Boston Red Sox. He had plenty of success and finished his career with a batting average of .302 and a .367 career on-base percentage.

New York's offense needs to be addressed this offseason with a big move or two but Casey could be the perfect person to lead them next year.
