Yankees Top Five Prospect Deemed Early Trade Deadline Candidate

The New York Yankees No. 5 prospect is viewed as a prime trade candidate.

The MLB trade deadline, not until July 30, will have a major impact on the New York Yankees. Starting the season as arguably a top-three team in baseball, the Yankees will certainly be looking to improve the roster.

Pitching will likely be the focus during the deadline, both in the rotation and bullpen. For a contending team like New York, they can never have enough pitching.

With teams deciding to sell at that point in the year, the Yankees will have a better idea of the market when July approaches.

The same can be said for who they plan on trading.

Certain players have a better chance than others to get moved. During the offseason, the front office made it known that they had no interest in trading Spencer Jones. Unless that changes in the near future, it's safe to assume that they'll keep him off the trade.

David Schoenfield of ESPN listed the top trade candidates for all 30 teams, writing that Everson Pereira is a trade candidate for New York.

In a loaded outfield that's only getting more crowded, finding a spot for Pereira is tough. While he's the No. 5 prospect in the Yankees system, moving him could be the logical thing to do, especially if they don't have a position for him to play in the future.

The 23-year-old got an opportunity to show what he had during the 2023 season, receiving 93 at-bats at the big league level. In those 93 at-bats, Pereira slashed just .151/.233/.194 and didn't hit a home run.

Despite his struggles, New York should, at the very least, still be able to package him in a deal for an impact player.
