LA Clippers Trade Reggie Jackson for Mason Plumlee
The LA Clippers said goodbye to fan favorite Reggie Jackson today in a move that the team legitimately needed to make.
Reggie Jackson and a 2028 second-round pick were sent to the Charlotte Hornets for Mason Plumlee.
The Clippers desperately needed a backup center, and Mason Plumlee is someone that could fit the role. Their small ball lineups and three guard rotations weren't doing well all season, and the team was forcing Ivica Zubac to play incredibly heavy minutes. If Zubac were to ever get hurt, the Clippers would be legitimately crushed.
This season, Mason Plumlee is averaging 12.3 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 67% from the field and 61% from the free throw line. He's not exactly a great shooter, but he does a great job at rebounding the ball and being a playmaker.
Reggie Jackson will likely get bought out by the Charlotte Hornets according to Shams Charania. He'll be one of the top point guards available in the buy out market, looking for a contender that will have him.
Jackson will forever be remembered among Clipper fans as a "Big Government" because of how many times he bailed out the Clippers over the years. He was a key reason why the team went to the 2021 Western Conference Finals, and was one of their most clutch players during the 2022 NBA season.
While Clipper fans sincerely wanted to see Reggie Jackson succeed with their team, his play was clearly starting to diminish this season and the Clippers clearly needed to get younger. They've done so by adding Bones Hyland from the Denver Nuggets.
