Bronny James to Return to Basketball in ‘Very Near Future’

Bronny James, son of LeBron James, could be seeing a return to basketball soon after suffering cardiac arrest in late-July.

After suffering cardiac arrest in late-July, USC’s Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, was the focus of the basketball world.

After an extremely serious situation, James' basketball future was understandably up in the air. Now, more information is being released about James’ incident. And thus far, it seems to err towards good news for his basketball career.

Per a family spokeswoman, the likely cause of James’ cardiac arrest was a congenital heart defect, which was identified after an initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was taken.

"It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated," the family spokeswoman said. "We are very confident in Bronny's full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future.”

All-in-all, it sounds like good news for James, who was one of the more exciting players in the 2024 NBA Draft class.

"I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers," LeBron tweeted on July 27. "We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!"

A four-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon high school, James was slated to make a big impact for the Trojans this season. Per most expert mocks and big boards, he was a consensus first round selection in the 2024 NBA Draft.

USC will still head into the season with the top recruit in the country per RSCI in Isaiah Collier.
