There's always a handful of college players who don't get as much national attention as they deserve, but are incredible players that could make an impact at the next level.

This is especially true for schools that aren’t always in the National spotlight. Regardless, there’s prospects that are capable of playing professionally across all conferences at the college level.

For this week’s spotlight, we take a look at Pepperdine forward Jevon Porter, who has legitimate NBA talent.

Notable Accolades

A former four-star recruit, Porter was a top 100 prospect in his high school class. Not only does he have the talent, but he’s also got high level basketball in his genes. Porter has two older brothers that have played at the NBA level in Michael Porter Jr. and Jontay Porter.

When looking at the Pepperdine freshman’s statistics this season, it’s clear he’s an impactful player. He’s averaging 11.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 48% from floor as a double-double machine.

Furthermore, digging into his Cerebro Sports metrics really tell the full story. Porter is one of three freshman that is 6-foot-10 or taller and shooting better than 35% from deep, all while having 75 or higher DSI. This goes to show how versatile he is as a prospect and how his skillset should translate well at the next level.

The first-year forward has notched an 8.0 C-RAM and 76 DSI this season. He’s also shown the ability to score at multiple levels, earning a 68 3PE and 73 ATR from Cerebro.

NBA Upside

Porter is the perfect stretch forward for the NBA, shooting 35% from deep on over three attempts per game as a freshman with a good stroke. He also has tremendous defensive upside, notching nearly a steal and block per game thus far. Porter’s IQ on that end is remarkable for a freshman that’s still pretty raw.

Relative to other freshman that have made the jump to the college level this season, Porter has been pretty efficient offensively. He’s also a capable free throw shooter which allows him to close games.

With all of the tools it will take to be an impactful player at the next level along with the family ties, taking a guy like Porter in the second-round of the 2023 NBA Draft would make a lot of sense for teams around the league. If not, he could go back to school for another season and look to take leap as a sophomore.
