Tankathon Reverse Standings: Wizards Finally Overtake Pistons for No. 1

Washington now owns the worst record in the league, but the best odds in the 2024 NBA Draft.

After months of clinging on to top (bottom?) spot in the Tankathon reverse standings, Detroit has finally relinquished its grip.

Post-All Star break, we're now in the danger zone for teams looking to garner high draft picks in 2024. Teams looking at No. 1 will likely need to start repositioning now, while others will be looking to push for the Play-In games.

Here are the reverse standings as of Sunday, March 3:

1. Washington Wizards, 9-51

Win no wins in their last 10 tries, the Wizards have finally overtaken Detroit for the top draft odds, which has felt inevitable for a month or so now.

Jordan Poole has been moved to the bench, the team has struggled to gain momentum and winning generally feels less important to the organization with a fresh General Manager and more time on the clock than Detroit.

For now, the Wizards will look to replenish their talent through the draft for the foreseeable future.

2. Detroit Pistons, 9-50

On the flip side, Detroit has finally strung together some wins, boasting three wins in their last 10 tries.

Cade Cunningham has looked the part of lead guard recently, and the team just seems to generally have more going for it than months earlier.

Now, with others teams surging towards higher draft picks, it will be interesting to see whether Detroit opts for building winning culture or better picks.

3. San Antonio Spurs, 12-48

With the emergence of eventual superstar Victor Wembanyama over the last few months, there's a lot less pressure on the Spurs to land better picks, opposed to building on what they have.

Of course, they'll want high draft picks come June, but the difference in three versus four may be less valuable to them than Wembanyama getting experience.

Luckily for them, in that regard, there's a bit of separation between them and the others near the bottom of the standings.

4. Charlotte Hornets, 15-45

5. Portland Trail Blazers, 17-42

6. Memphis Grizzlies, 20-41

7. Toronto Raptors, 22-38

8. Brooklyn Nets, 24-36

T9. Houston Rockets, 26-34

T9. Atlanta Hawks, 26-34

11. Utah Jazz, 27-34

12. Chicago Bulls, 28-32

13. Los Angeles Lakers, 33-29

14. Golden State Warriors, 32-28
