USC’s Bronny James Cleared for Full Return to Basketball

Bronny James, son of NBA superstar LeBron James, has been cleared for a full return to basketball after suffering cardiac arrest.

Per a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania, USC guard Bronny James — son of NBA superstar LeBron James — has been cleared by his doctors for a full return to basketball.

Charania posted the full statement from the James family spokesperson: “Bronny will have a final evaluation with USC staff this week, resume practice next week, and return to games soon after. The James family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible medical team, the entire USC community, and especially the countless friends, family, and fans for their love and support. Fight On!”

James' basketball future as a whole was understandably up in the air following his cardiac arrest in late-July, which shocked the basketball world.

Per a family spokeswoman, the likely cause of James’ cardiac arrest was a congenital heart defect, which was identified after an initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was taken.

A former four-star recruit, James will be a massive addition for the Trojans, who have already rolled out five-star Isaiah Collier to much NBA Draft applause.

Despite being an undersized combo guard, James is an asset at combo guard with his strong perimeter shooting, good athleticism and general basketball instincts. Per Draft Digest's earlier scouting report on James: "He boasts quick, powerful vertical pop and moves well on both ends. Given his age and genetics, it’s worth monitoring James’ height moving forward as it wouldn’t be surprising to see him grow a few inches."

USC currently stands at 6-2 on the season.
