Deebo Samuel Sees "Significant Improvement" From Trey Lance

Before he ended his radio interview abruptly, Samuel did answer a few questions with one of them in regard to what he's seeing from Trey Lance.

Deebo Samuel is in the spotlight for cutting his CBS sports radio interview short.

Before he ended the interview abruptly, Samuel did answer a few questions with one of them in regard to what he's seeing from Trey Lance. With Lance having started only three games, he's still an enormous mystery. Since Samuel receives passes from him, who better to ask and dispel a bit of the blurriness with Lance.

"Very versatile, strong arm, smart young man," said Samuel on his initial impression of Lance. "How fast he can pick up things because you know everything is throwing at him at once. His first year he was behind Jimmy (Garoppolo), then when he first got the chance to show people what he can do he got an injury. But just coming back into minicamp and stuff, just watching Trey and how he's progressed from the past two years it's been a significant improvement."

While it's great to hear Samuel give some praise to Lance, he doesn't detail what that "significant improvement" is. I blame the interviewer for not following up on that. It was right there for him to dig deeper into that and get more juice out of Samuel's assessment of Lance. But given that the radio host does a national show, all that really matters is getting something viral, which is why he followed up by asking Samuel if Lance has a future with the 49ers.

Aside from that, it is a bit of a positive to hear another 49ers player see improvement from Lance even though he has barely played and suffered multiple injuries. The first player to say Lance has improved was George Kittle and it's basically been echoed by several other players after him. Training camp is right around the corner for the 49ers, so it will start to be clear if Lance has actually significantly improved or not.
