Two Former Browns Announce Plans To Retire With Franchise

WR Rashard Higgins and LB Christian Kirksey will sign one-day deals with the franchise and retire.

Two former Cleveland Browns are returning to the franchise on one-day contracts to retire.

WR Rashard Higgins and LB Christian Kirksey, each of whom spent six seasons in Cleveland, will retire in brown and orange the team announced Tuesday. Higgins hasn't played in a game since his final season with the Browns in 2021. While Kirksey played for Green Bay in 2020, then Houston from 2021-2022 before signing to the Bills practice squad last year. He announced his retirement just a few weeks into the season.

Both Higgins and Kirksey were popular names among Browns fans during their tenures with the franchise. At one point there were reports of the Browns even looking to extend Higgins who, at the time. was a go-to target for then quarterback Baker Mayfield. A deal never came to fruition though and Higgins wound up following the former No. 1 overall pick to Carolina in 2022. He appeared in three games but finished the season with no stats for the Panthers.

During his time with the Browns, Higgins recorded 1,890 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. His best season came in 2020, the year Cleveland made the playoffs for the first time in 18 years, where he hauled in 37 receptions for 599 yards and four touchdowns.

Kirksey played in 73 games for the Browns starting 54 of them over a six-year span. He amassed 204 solo tackles, assisting on 180 and registering 30 for a loss. He also snagged two interceptions broke up 16 passes and forced four fumbles.
