Brandin Cooks on Dak Prescott Trade Call; What Cowboys QB Said to New WR Weapon

After a trade to the Cowboys, Brandin Cooks is in prime position to help them compete for a Super Bowl trophy.

Depending on who you asked, the receiver position was an area of need for the Dallas Cowboys this offseason.

The Cowboys have a certified top-tier receiver in CeeDee Lamb, however their second- and third-leading receivers in tight end Dalton Schultz and receiver Noah Brown are headed down to Houston after leaving in free agency.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys swung a trade with the Texans for veteran receiver Brandin Cooks which will provide a boost in the receiver room.

Now, Cooks leaves a rebuild and joins a team ready to contend for a Super Bowl - a change of scenery he is excited about.

"I couldn't be more hungry," Cooks said. "Last three years, it is what it is. But when you step into a locker room like this and an organization ... I mean, it's definitely fueling the fire and that hunger to be able to come out here and just show up and help my team win. I can't wait. I truly can't."

In his three seasons with the Texans, Cooks was a reliable target, with two 1,000-yard seasons in his first two years.

He came up short of the 1,000-yard mark in 2022 with only 699 receiving yards, but he missed four games (and dealt with subpar QB play) or otherwise very well could have produced three straight 1,000-yard seasons.

As a Cowboy, though, he might not hit 1,000 receiving yards while operating as the second receiver behind Lamb. Despite that, though, his addition should help quarterback Dak Prescott out in the passing attack - and make life easier for Lamb in the process.

“He was excited,'' Cooks said of Dak, who phoned him immediately after the trade. "He said he can’t wait to get to work. He said he has a lot of respect for my game. He said he’s looking forward to having me as part of the group.”
