Saints Offseason Workout Dates Announced, New Orleans Back to Work On April 15

Here's some important dates to keep in mind for the Saints, as the NFL has announced the offseason workout program dates.

The NFL has announced offseason workout dates for all 32 teams, with the Saints officially getting back to work on Monday, Apr. 15. It's crazy to think that in just a couple of weeks, Dennis Allen and company will start putting in work on the new season in Phase One, which includes a heavy focus on learning the new offense under Klint Kubiak. Here's some dates to keep in mind.

Saints Offseason Workout Program Dates

  • First Day: April 15
  • OTA Offseason Workouts: May 21-23, May 28-30, June 3-6
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 11-13

What can we look for during this time? For starters, don't expect players like Ryan Ramczyk (knee) and Chase Young (neck) to be involved. These are strictly voluntary sessions, so attendance is not required from players. New Orleans will begin Phase 2 of the offseason strength and condition program on Apr. 29, while their rookie minicamp is projected to be May 10-12. With OTAs starting on May 21, we'll get some availability during each week.

Furthermore, here's a list of housekeeping items to keep in mind during these phases.

  • Workouts are strictly voluntary
  • Club officials cannot indicate workouts are anything other than voluntary
  • Maximum 4 w/o per week (no weekends), with one week being the mandatory minicamp (not permitted on weekends)
  • Contact work is prohibited in all workouts (e.g. "live" blocking, tackling, pass rushing, bump-and-run, etc.)
  • Intensity and tempo of drills should be at a level conducive to learning, with player safety as the highest priority.
  • Two weeks | Limited to strength and conditioning activities ("dead ball"); only strength and conditioning coaches allowed on field*
  • 90 minute max on the field
  • Clubs can only specify 2 hours for players to be at the facility
  • Players choose the other 2 hours for weights, etc.
