Steelers Miss Tremaine Edmunds After Huge Deal With Bears
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be signing inside linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who is headed from the Buffalo Bills to the Chicago Bears, on a massive four-year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
According to reports, Edmunds and the Bears have agreed to terms on a four-year, $72 million contract with $50 million guaranteed. The deal gives Edmunds the largest four-year inside linebacker deal in the NFL.
Many fans were hoping the Steelers landed Edmunds in free agency, as the 24-year-old seemed like the biggest splash the team could possibly make this offseason. Pittsburgh is likely shopping for an inside backer, but Edmunds' contract is almost certainly out of their price range for the position.
The Steelers currently have Myles Jack under contract for $11 million this season, but could save $8 million if they release him. Meanwhile, other options like T.J. Edwards, who also signed with the Bears, and Germaine Pratt, who re-signed with the Bengals, are also off the Steelers' board.
Edwards signed with a $6.5 million per year salary - a number that is probably closer to the Steelers'.
