Report: Ravens QB Lamar Jackson Could Consider Sitting Out Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers are watching as the Baltimore Ravens could lose their quarterback this season.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are watching from afar as they prep for a season that could or could not include Lamar Jackson playing quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens.

Jackson is currently under the non-exclusive franchise tag meaning teams can negotiate with him, make an offer sheet and if the Ravens do not match it, they can send two first-round picks to Baltimore in exchange for the QB.

For Jackson, this wasn't the ideal situation, and as of now, no team has expressed interest in making an offer sheet to the Ravens. If no one does and Baltimore and their quarterback cannot reach an agreement on a long-term deal, Jackson will make just $32 million this season under the tag.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the belief is that Jackson won't be willing to play under the tag in 2023 and could sit out if no deal gets done before the July 15 deadline.

"I don’t expect him to sign the tag. I don’t expect teams to make offers here soon, and I’ve talked to multiple teams that predict that no team will make an offer, as crazy as it sounds," Fowler said.

Jackson is 45-16 as the Ravens starter with an MVP award under his belt. Meanwhile, the team's backup in Tyler Huntley, who is just 3-5 as a starter with five touchdown passes and seven interceptions.

For the Steelers, they might be hoping Jackson sits out a season as it'll make the AFC North much less competitive in 2023. There's still plenty of time remaining between now and the deadline to sign him tag, but if nothing changes, it sure seems like the Ravens will be out a quarterback this year.
