Texans Projected as Trade Suitor for RB Austin Ekeler

After requesting a trade, Pro Football Focus projects the Houston Texans as a potential team to acquire running back Austin Ekeler.

While the Houston Texans were busy taking part in the opening of legal tampering ahead of the new NFL league year Wednesday afternoon Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was requesting permission to seek out a trade.

Even with young running back Dameon Pierce on the Texans' roster, is it possible the team takes a run at trying to acquire the veteran?

According to Pro Football Focus, Houston would be a great spot for Ekeler to land.

"Dameon Pierce had an outstanding rookie season and was especially effective on the ground," says PFF. "Adding Ekeler to the picture as the pass-catching lightning to Pierce's thunder would give Houston arguably the best one-two punch in the league as they add the next face of the franchise at quarterback at the top of the draft."

Despite agreeing to a deal with running back Mike Boone on Monday the Texans would still be wise to stay open to the possibility of bringing in Ekeler.

With a rookie quarterback expected to be inbound with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, a solid stable of running backs would be a key part of supporting whichever passer that player ends up being.

And in a league where running back attrition becomes a problem for teams every year, staying too thin in the group could be a recipe for disaster that puts way too much pressure on a first-year quarterback earlier than desired.

Obviously, PFF believes the pairing of Houston's NFL franchise and Ekeler would be a good fit.

Now we wait and see if the Texans agree.
