NY Rangers Will Have Important Decisions to Make Regarding Future of Young Talent

As the offseason has started to settle down for the New York Rangers, the team will be getting prepared for a big campaign next season. However, as the retool continues, the team will also be looking ahead to the future.
Coming into the summer, the Rangers were expected to be one of the most aggressive teams in the league when it came to trying to improve. By all accounts, New York has improved quite a bit, and they addressed multiple needs.
Adding Pavel Dorofeyev gives the team one of the best young goal scorers in the league, and that was a major need. Furthermore, Oliver Bjorkstrand should also play a significant role for the team on the wing in the middle-six.
On the blueline, the additions of Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson have greatly improved the second-pair. Now, while the team is looking better, they will have to make some big decisions regarding some of their young talent next summer.
Rangers Will Need to Make Decisions on Young Forwards
While the focus in the coming months will be on the upcoming season, the front office for New York will also have some big decisions to make regarding the future.
This is a franchise that is trying to get a little bit younger, and last year especially they saw some talent take a step forward. However, while that young talent is looking better, the Rangers are also getting close to having to pay some of them.
Following this year, the trio of Gabe Perreault, Will Cuylle, and Noah Laba are all going to be restricted free agents. With these three young players starting to establish roles for themselves on the Rangers last year and being young, keeping them would be ideal.
Of the three, the one who is going to be arguably the most important to keep around is going to be Perreault. The young forward spent time on the first line last season and projects to be a top-six winger.
Getting him locked up long-term certainly makes sense, but with a full season, his value could go way up for next summer. Furthermore, with center being a position of need for the franchise, that also makes Laba a very important piece.
While the salary cap is expected to go up once again and the Rangers will have room once again, they are going to have to make some decisions on their young players and what their futures will be.
