In this story:
One of the greatest cornerbacks of his generation called it a career on April 2, when Stephon Gilmore announced that he has retired from the NFL at age 35.
Gilmore (who was a Super Bowl LIII champion with the New England Patriots, the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a two-time first-team All-Pro, and a five-time Pro Bowler) made this announcement with an Instagram post that was captioned, "To my first love, Football — As a young, scrappy kid from Rock Hill South Carolina with humble beginnings, the eldest of 6 - you gave me focus, opportunity, strength, and friends to last a lifetime.

"From my first game with Finley Road Falcons to two Super Bowls, multiple Pro Bowls, and a Defensive Player of the Year Award, you taught me the invaluable lesson of working hard and believing in myself," Gilmor's caption continued.
"To my wife and kids, thank you for making it possible for me to chase my dreams. To my parents, thank you for raising me to be the man I am today. To my coaches, thank you for pouring into me. And to the fans—thank you for your support. I have had an incredible 13 years in the League, and I cannot wait to see what this next chapter holds. GillyLock Out.🔒 ✌🏾," he concluded.
The Instagram video itself featured many great moments from his iconic career, most notably his interception of Jared Goff's pass in Super Bowl LIII, which helped Tom Brady and the New England Patriots seal the victory.
Stephon Gilmore's Wife Gabrielle Reacts to Retirement Announcement with Heartfelt Message
There were also several photos of Gilmore and his family on the Instagram collage, which made for a very wholesome trip down memory lane.
And Gilmore's wife, Gabrielle, reposted this video to his Instagram story and added the caption, "Proud Over & Out! ✌🏾".
She also reposted a photo of Gilmore holding their son after the Super Bowl that the NFL's Instagram account posted, with the caption, "Happy Retirement + Happy Birthday @bashgilmore 😍".
Stephon has been married to his wife, Gabrielle Glenn, since 2014. They met when both attended the University of Southern California, when Gilmore was on the football team, and Gabrielle was running track and field.
Stephon and Gabrielle's son, Sebastian (aka Bash, who was born in 2015) also made an Instagram story post dedicated to his dad's retirement that was captioned, "Congrats daddy ❤️".
The Gilmore clan has two more children bon after Bash. Gisele was born in 2017 and their third child, Gael, was born after that.
