Miami Hurricanes Rumored to Wear Throwback Uniforms

The 2001-02 Miami Hurricanes were the greatest college football team ever assembled. They dominated every team on their schedule en route to winning the 2002 BCS National Championship and eventually produced a record 38 NFL Draft selections.
This year will mark the 25th anniversary of that legendary team's unforgettable season. The school plans to celebrate their legacy during the conference showdown against the Pitt Panthers on Saturday, October 24.
Miami Throwback Uniform Rumors

According to the popular Instagram account @canes.hq, Miami might wear the 2001 throwback uniforms during that game. The account put together a solid case to make even the most skeptical fans hopeful about the return of the uniforms.
Last fall, some 2001-inspired practice jerseys were spotted on the field in Coral Gables. The adidas jersey template featured a similar design to the Nike-era template, but with special "2001" branding on the collar. The account added that adidas usually tests new designs the year before they debut on the field.
How It Would Work With Nike

Understandably, many fans pointed out that the 2001 National Championship team wore Nike and not adidas. However, adidas could get around that by just recreating the look with their own template. Or they could follow the "Modern Classic" trend that is taking over every level of college and professional sports. Make modern adjustments to a classic look.
But which throwback uniform combination would the Hurricanes wear? They beat up on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Rose Bowl while wearing white jerseys and green pants. But the game against Pitt will be played in Hard Rock Stadium, so the green or orange jerseys are also solid options.
Shopping Information

Either way, the vast majority of Canes fans will be happy if the uniform rumors turn out to be true. Online shoppers can choose between the white, green, orange, and black adidas jerseys at Fanatics. Plus, they can shop the 2001 jerseys (sans the Nike logo) at Mitchell & Ness.
With the college football season kicking off so soon, we should learn whether the rumors are true in a short amount of time. Let's hope they are.
Miami Hurricanes x Adidas

In January 2015, the University of Miami signed a massive 12-year sponsorship agreement with adidas that runs through June 2027. While some fans want the Hurricanes to return to Nike after the contract expires, that seems unlikely.
Adidas has made major investments in South Florida football. Last year, adidas signed all 41 high school athletic programs across Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The brand has made the region its foothold for American football.
