In this story:

Cleveland Guardians power-hitting prospect Ralphy Velazquez is one of the hottest hitters in all of baseball this month.

Velazquez, Cleveland's No. 2 prospect for 2026 on MLB Pipeline, launched a solo shot for the Triple-A Columbus Clippers on Thursday. The lefty-swinging slugger broke a 3-3 tie with the St. Paul Saints, the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, by crushing a 414-foot home run off the top of the batter's eye in center field.

With his latest booming blast, Velazquez has now gone deep in three consecutive games. The 21-year-old already has 11 homers in just 14 games this month, along with a .375 batting average and a 1.408 OPS. With the Guardians battling for a playoff spot, the organization might need to consider promoting the top prospect to add a spark to its lineup.

Will the Guardians call up Ralphy Velazquez for his MLB debut in 2026?

Overall, Velazquez has a .290 batting average, a .378 on-base percentage, and a .921 OPS with 24 homers and 74 RBIs in 102 games this year. The young slugger started the season at Double-A, where he hit .317 with seven home runs in 36 games. The 21-year-old then made his Triple-A debut in May. And in 66 games with the Columbus Clippers this year, the top prospect has a .275 batting average with 17 homers and 44 RBIs.

Defensively, Velazquez has mostly played first base in his professional career. But the 2023 first-round draft pick has recently been gaining some experience in left field. That could give the Guardians another way to get the lefty-swinging slugger's bat in the lineup if they elect to call him up to the majors this season.

Cleveland enters Friday's action at 62-66. Despite being under .500, the Guardians are 4.5 games back of the Chicago White Sox for first place in the American League Central. They're also only one game behind the Twins and Texas Rangers, who are tied for the third and final American League Wild Card spot at 63-65.

It's unclear if Cleveland will actually pull the trigger on promoting Velazquez this year. He just turned 21 at the end of May and only has 66 Triple-A games under his belt. But if the top prospect continues to swing a scorching-hot bat in the minors, the Guardians would seemingly have to at least consider promoting him to the big leagues for a late-season playoff push.
