Fulham boss Marco Silva will be banned from the touchline when his side face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday.

Silva was booked in the Cottagers’ 0-0 draw at Chelsea last week after growing frustrated with cynical challenges from the hosts going unpunished.

It was his fourth caution of the season, which is the threshold for a suspension from the touchline.

Silva was also booked at Arsenal following a late Gunners’ winner, and at West ham too, after he felt the officials missed two crucial handball offences that led to goals.

His third booking of the season came in the north east when he remonstrated with officials for not sending off Dan Burn and awarding his side a penalty.

It used to be the case that only red card offences for coaches landed them a ban, but the Premier League changed those rules in 2019.

Now all occupants of the technical area can be booked and they accumulate over the course of the season.

Four matches trigger a one-match ban, while eight result in a two-match touchline suspension with a misconduct charge coming to anyone who gets 16.

Touchline duties for Fulham in the fourth round replay will now fall to Stuart Gray and Luis Boa Morte, with Silva restricted to the stands.
