Rotherham boss vows to 'do right' by Sunderland defender following head injury

Rotherham boss Matty Taylor has promised to ‘do right’ by on-loan Sunderland defender Bailey Wright after he suffered a head injury.

Wright replaced Grant Hall for the Millers with 20 minutes left of their goalless draw with Sheffield United last week to make his debut.

He, though, only lasted 30 seconds himself before a clash or heads left him with a concussion and unable to continue.

It is a less than ideal start for Wright, and he will now be a major doubt for their next game, which is on Saturday at Blackpool.

Taylor, though, says the player’s long-term health will come first, and all safety guidelines will be strictly followed by Rotherham.

"There is a protocol to go through with the medics in the next seven days or however long it takes," Taylor said. "We'll probably be without him next weekend."

"I was pleased we made the right decision and took Bailey off. We just have to make sure he's safe.

"A lot of teams and managers haven't done the right thing in terms of the concussion protocol with their players."

Wright is also certain to miss Rotherham’s home game against Sunderland later this month with on-loan players ineligible to play against their parent clubs.
