Michael Beale is not a popular man with Sunderland fans and the way he treated defender Trai Hume this week is unlikely to ingratiate him to the players either.

Beale oversaw yet another defeat, losing 2-1 to Birmingham despite taking a first-half lead.

It was a reversal of the recent win over Plymouth, with Sunderland putting in an absolutely dreadful second-half performance in which it took them more than 20 minutes to even have an attack.

Perhaps the biggest talking point, though, came late in the game when Beale substituted Trai Hume.

The substitution, which introduced striker Hemir into the action, wasn’t a bad call at all, but Beale’s treatment of Hume was shocking.

As Hume walked bast Beale on his way to the dugout, the Northern Irishman extended his arm to Beale and the former Rangers manager refused to even acknowledge him. You can see the incident below.

Beale didn’t even look at him never mind anything else, despite the fact he knew he was coming.

The pressure is right back on Beale after back-to-back away defeats to Championship strugglers, especially with such poor performances too.

This incident certainly won’t help him either, and it might give some insight into why the players seem less willing to run and right for him than they were for previous coaches.
