Report: Sunderland keen on signing Barnsley midfielder

Sunderland are looking to strengthen their midfield with the addition of Callum Styles from Barnsley, according to reports.
Midfield is an area where Sunderland have been a little light this season, with only really Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah and Jobe Bellingham available to head coach Michael Beale.
Jay Matete is also coming back from injury and he could provide another option, but central midfield has still been an area Sunderland have been targeting all January.
According to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, 23-year-old Callum Styles might be that man and the Hungarian international could move to the Stadium of Light on an initial loan with a summer obligation to buy.

Styles would not be the physical defensive enforcer many fans believe the Sunderland midfield needs, although he does possess a lot of quality on the ball.
Left-footed, he operates well in tight spaces and is highly versatile having played on the left and a variety of central roles as well.
Although born in Bury, Styles qualifies for Hungary through his parents and has been capped 18 times at senior international level so far.
