Should Houston Astros Entertain This Trade Proposal From Red Sox?

The Houston Astros are in the market for another impact bat at the MLB trade deadline. Could they accept an offer like this from the Boston Red Sox?

The Houston Astros are poised to be buyers at this season's MLB trade deadline. One player they could be interested in is Boston Red Sox slugger Alex Verdugo. 

The outfielder has already been linked as a potential fit for the Astros as the outfielder is slugging .288/.357/.453 with six home runs this season. Verdugo is also a left-handed bat that could slot in nicely into Houston's lineup. 

Verdugo has one more year left of team control after the 2023 MLB season, so he isn't considered a rental. Also, if made available, Verdugo would be one of the hottest commodities in a pretty barren trade landscape. 

General manager Dana Brown already said that no prospect is off limits when it comes to the trade deadline. So for a player with an added year of team control and two post season runs, the price will be high. 

Could a prospect package of top prospect Drew Gilbert and no.5 prospect Korey Lee get the job done?

The Red Sox would almost certainly entertain the idea as Gilbert is a legitimate prospect that would slot in well with a young Boston team. Lee is also intriguing as he is a catching prospect that is close to making an impact at the MLB level. 

For Houston, they would have to swallow once again gutting their farm system at the trade deadline, but Verdugo could be the missing piece to turn the Astros from a second place team to a World Series champion. 

But is the price too high?
