Alabama Basketball No. 1 in Final AP Top 25 of 2022-23 Season

The No. 1 ranking is the highest that the program has ever placed in the poll to finish a season.

History continues to be made for Alabama basketball.

On Monday morning, the final AP Top 25 of the 2022-23 season was released, with the Crimson Tide finishing the season as the No. 1 team in the nation. Alabama received 48 first-place votes, moving up three spots from No. 4.

The No. 1 ranking marks the fourth time in program history that Alabama has been ranked as the top team in the nation. The Crimson Tide was ranked No. 1 for two consecutive weeks back in December of 2002, but had to wait until this past February to be ranked No. 1 again — a ranking that lasted only one week before Alabama lost at Tennessee.

Prior to Monday, the Crimson Tide's highest ranking to finish a season was No. 5, which was set both in 1956 and 2021.

Around the rest of the Southeastern Conference, Texas A&M is the next highest-ranked SEC team at No. 17. Tennessee comes in at No. 20, while Missouri is the last SEC team at No. 23. Kentucky received 39 voting points but was not ranked.

On Sunday night, the latest USA Today Coaches Poll was released. Alabama moved up three spots to No. 2 behind Houston. The Crimson Tide received the second-most first-place votes with eight compared to 21 for the Cougars. The final coaches poll will release following the NCAA Tournament.

Alabama's highest finish in the highest coaches poll was also No. 5 back in the same seasons as the AP finish: 1956 and 2021.
