Live Updates: FAU at Alabama Basketball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — As the only winless team in the SEC, Alabama basketball takes on FAU in the Crimson Tide’s second game of the season.

The game comes just hours after Alabama received news that sophomore transfer Jahvon Quinerly’s appeal with the NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief, making him ineligible to play for the Crimson Tide through the end of the 2019-20 season.

*Alabama junior wing Herbert Jones is in uniform and participating in pre-game warmups. Jones left the loss to Penn with a hyper-extended elbow. Starting lineups will be announced shortly.

*Alabama head coach Nate Oats will start sophomore guard Kyra Lewis, Grad transfer guard Beetle Bolden, junior wing John Petty Jr., freshman guard Jaylen Forbes and redshirt freshman center Javian Davis.

*Bolden, Davis and Forbes are making their first collegiate starts tonight.

First Half

 *Jones has not checked in yet. Subs have been Jaden Shackelford, Alex Reese and Galin Smith. With 14:10 left in the half Alabama leads 9-5.

*An old-fashioned 3-point play by Shackelford sparked the Tide and with 11:28 to go in the half Alabama leads 16-9 over FAU.

 *Turnovers, foul and  a technical on Oats have allowed FAU to cut the Tide lead to 21-18 with 8:15 left.

*Petty and Shackelford have each scored six points. At the final media timeout of the half and with 3:51 left in the half Alabama leads the Owls 28-23.

*A 3-poiner by Reese and a steal leading to a Lewis dunk have Alabama up 37:25, the Tide's largest lead. There is 1:57 left in the half. FAU took a timeout to slow the momentum.

*Alabama has it's largest lead at 43-25 at the half. Bama hit nine straight free throws in one stretch and is 12/15 on he night. Lewis has 11 points, Shackelford 9 and Petty 8.


Second Half

*Reese started the second half instead of Forbes. Other four are the same.

*Davis has taken over inside and now has 12 points. Bama leads 52-32 with 15:57 left.

*At the 12:42 media time out, Alabama's lead is 55-38. Lewis and Shackelford have a dozen points each. That's a redshirt freshman and a true freshman, folks. 

*It's safe to say Jones is being held out.

*FAU called time out trailing 60-42 at the 9:05 mark.

*Walk-on Tyler Barnes entered with 8:30 left.

*At the 7:56 media time out, Bama leads 63-43. Davis has 15 points while Lewis and "Shack" have 14 each.

*At the 5:30 mark Alabama leads 68-47. Shackelford and Davis each have 17.

*A 16-3 Alabama run has the Tide up 71-47 and Oats is 3:47 from his first win in Tuscaloosa.

*With 93 ticks left Barnes re-entered and was joined by fellow walk-on Britton Johnson.

 *Freshman Raymond Hawkins and walk-ons Sam Okauru, Adam Cotrell entered with 68 seconds left.

*Final score in Oats' first win at the Capstone: Alabama 78, FAU 59.

*Redshirt-freshman guard Javian Davis finished the game just one rebound short of a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds.
