Alabama Football's JC Latham: "I Want Them to be Scared of Us"

Alabama's new star on the offensive line has big goals for the unit this season.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Crimson Tide has begun spring practice in preparation for the 2023-24 season.

After a rather disappointing 11-2 season, head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide are looking to assert its will on the college football world again.

With many new faces — including at quarterback — it may have to start on the offensive line. The budding star on that unit? Sophomore JC Latham — a guy that NFL scouts are already drooling over.

At 6-foot-6, 335 pounds, Latham is an imposing figure. He wants the offensive line group to be the same way.

"I want us to be ruthless," Latham said. "Every time we line up and get ready to hike the ball — I want them to be scared of us. Hit them in the mouth every play — get ready to go for four quarters."

Latham had positive things to say about new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as well.

"I love him a lot," Latham said. "He's really bringing the team together. […] Really excited for the offensive coordinator this year."

Latham started all 13 games in 2022-23 — his freshman campaign. Now in his second year, he is expected to fill the role at left tackle — the most important position on the line.

"I just love to play," Latham said. "I love to compete. At the end of the day, it's Saban's call who plays. I'll do whatever it takes to give the team the best chance to succeed."
