Did you notice?

• Senior defender Nealy Martin was named as one of the three 2019 SEC Co-Scholar Athletes of the Year in soccer. The Birmingham, Ala. native owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA in chemical engineering, earning both President’s List and Dean’s List honors. She is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Recipient and was named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team.

• Freshmen Reyna Reyes was named All-SEC, with juniors Brynn Martin and Casey Wertz landing season-team honors and Carlee Giammona joining Reyes on the all-freshman team. It’s the first time in program history Alabama had four players land conference honors.

• Alabama tallied a season-best 67 kills and stuffed 18 blocks as it pulled out a dramatic five-set home victory over Ole Miss. The Crimson Tide hit .444 in the deciding frame while holding Ole Miss to a .056 clip. With 17 kills and 11 digs, junior Doris Carter earned her fourth double-double of the season, while freshman Alyiah Wells earned her first with 15 kills and 11 blocks. “The key was the way we prepared for this match all week,” Crimson Tide coach Lindsey Devine said in a statement. “We were emphasizing the block and using the eyes to gather information from the opponent. The carryover from practice was excellent. I was proud of the way they followed the game plan and executed it. They trusted what we were telling them all week.”

• A number of former Alabama players had a huge day in the NFL, but we wanted to make sure you saw this play especially …

• Junior Jeremy Gschwendtner won his third match of the CCB Invite with a three-set win over Michal Lusovsky of UAB, 2-6, 6-2 ,6-3, as the men’s tennis team closed out its fall season with three wins at the CCB Collegiate Invitational in Birmingham.

• The Alabama B boat (Emma Ewell, Shannon, Conlin, Ilaria Earl, Ariana Sweany, Katie Toth, Kristen Rupinen, Samantha Gafford, Gabi Gevers, Olivia DeGroot) took first in the Women’s Open 8+ as the rowing team concluded the fall season with five more medals – one gold, two silver, and two bronze, in addition to nine top-10 finishes at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga.

• This is when you know it’s a big game …

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

October 4, 1969: In one of the most exciting games in college football history, Alabama edged Ole Miss 33-32 before a sellout crowd at Legion Field and large television audience on ABC. Alabama’s Scott Hunter was 22-for-29 and 300 passing yards while Rebels quarterback Archie Manning was 33-for-52 for 436 yards to go with 15 carries for 104 rushing yards. Mississippi's 609 yards were the most ever registered against a Crimson Tide defense.

Crimson Tide quote of the day:

“I’ve been here so long that when I got here the Dead Sea wasn’t even sick.” – Wimp Sanderson.

We’ll leave you with this …
