A rocky start for the 2023 No. 1-overall draft pick got rockier Thursday as the Carolina Panthers announced that former Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young will miss this weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Young and the Panthers are 0-2 through the season's first two weeks and the former Heisman Trophy winner suffered an ankle injury in the team's Monday Night Football loss to the New Orleans Saints.

The injury does not appear to be a longterm issue for Young, but he will miss his first NFL game of his career on Sunday.

He’s completed 59 percent of his passes for 299 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while also fumbling twice with one resulting in a turnover.

Carolina has only scored 27 offensive points this season.

The injury opens the door for veteran quarterback Andy Dalton to make the start against the Saints. The veteran has been vocally supportive of Young and his development so far, making it clear that he's not specifically to blame for the Panthers offensive problems.

"I don't feel like it has been one thing that has caused it," Dalton said to the media this week. "I feel like it has been different things every single time. Different guys taking turns on missed assignments or the execution just hasn't been there."

After the Sunday contest with Seattle the Panthers are set to host the, currently, 0-2 Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

Young's ankle will be reevaluated next week.
