Wide Receiver John Metchie III Set For NFL Debut

The NFL's Week 2 slate kicked off on Thursday with the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the Minnesota Vikings.
The league will celebrate a heartwarming story on Sunday when the full day gets underway at noon, specifically in the Indianapolis Colt vs. Houston Texans game.
Former Alabama wide receiver and current Houston Texan John Metchie III is set to make his NFL regular season debut. Metchie, drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft missed his entire rookie season battling Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.
The Canadian receiver got an all-clear diagnosis during the offseason and resumed practicing with Houston with a goal of making his NFL debut. Metchie likely would have been a factor in the Texans passing game in Week 1, however he suffered a hamstring injury in fall camp, derailing his comeback.
Metchie was removed from the Houston injury report this week and is slated to slide into the lineup, helping rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud.
““I’m extremely excited, but I can’t get too ahead of myself,” Metchie said, via Aaron Wilson of KPRC. “I just, like I said, have to be patient. That’s kind of the biggest thing. Although I’m real excited, I got to be patient and ready whenever my number is called.””
He produced 96 receptions, 1,142 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 13 games for the Crimson Tide in his last season in college, but unfortunately tore his ACL in the SEC championship game, hurting his draft stock.
The Houston Texans host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at noon with both teams looking to rebound from Week 1 losses.
